kids back to school

Where did the summer go? Back to School is here almost.

Greetings!
Backpacks, school supplies, and new clothes for back to school is what I remember as a kid. We only got a new set of clothes for Easter, Christmas & back to school time. We got to pick out new shoes only at Christmas (a going to church pair) and back to school (a practical pair), usually tennis shoes for gym class. That is rolling back the clock a few years as I was in the class of “72”.
Enjoy our articles regarding the new triangle tag with lanyard, a good multipurpose tag with detection almost as good as a black mini tag. See our various tagging ideas. Also look for our article on how to better stop shoplifters and how to keep your towers in good shape for back to school too.

Now for my corny joke:

How to Avoid False Alarms

Store owners are sometimes concerned about placing the system 18 to 24 inches from the door frame to eliminate false alarms. They are worried about customers going around the system.

The easy solution:

Here is a beautiful picture of how a shop manager placed non metal items to block this from happening. It looks decorative but is very functional. Note that all the items are not metal.

New tag seen above (right 2 pictures) is a triangle tag with a lanyard attached. These are great for the nose piece of sunglasses. It’s detection is almost as good as the black mini tag seen to the left. Great to use on swimwear or leather goods to eliminate pin hole. In black, these ring the Checkpoint 8.2 MHz system. In white they ring 58 KHz Sensormatic frequency.
Free Samples are available on any of our tags. Just give us a call to request them. 812-877-9930 Office

Celebrating Independence Day

Monday after next — Happy 4th of July 2016

Greetings!
I can smell the hot dogs roasting already. Can you believe we are almost to Independence Day? By the way, mine will be veggie-dogs as I am eating, as much as possible, a whole food plant based diet these days. The pounds have already started to melt away, and I have more energy.

Enjoy articles below about our newest tags now available for smaller items, especially the new smaller jewelry tags. We have a super special price on the tags for the 4th of July holiday. Also, see notes on our new warehouse that will allow us to ship faster to you, as well as a great idea to help you stop false alarms from happening in your store.

Door to prevent false alarm

How to Avoid False Alarms

Many of the calls we receive regarding false alarms are caused by the system being positioned too close to the doorway. Usually whoever vacuums or cleans the floors will move the towers and then not know where to put them back.

The easy solution:

Put masking tape on the floor underneath the baseplate(s) so that when the towers are moved you see the rectangle of masking tape to let you know where to put them back.s

Mother's Day

Mother’s Day Coming May 8th This Year

This Mother’s Day many mothers will receive gift cards, flowers, jewelry, chocolates, cards, and lots of hugs.  If you carry any of these items, maybe have them at the front of the store with a reminder sign for Mother’s Day or even a count down til Mother’s Day.  Maybe even consider a nice Mother’s Day basket with a day at the spa (partner with another business).  For every purchase you get a chance at the Mother’s Day gift basket.  Keep it fun and exciting.  Announce who won in your newsletter, or better yet, put a picture in the store of the winner when they come to pick it up.

Below are some other great ideas on tagging.  Don’t forget to take advantage of our special on pin lanyards.

Tagging Gift Cards

Tagging Gift Cards

Most people do not tag gift cards because they are of no value until activated at a cash register, however if you have a problem with them disappearing you can use the disposable paper labels to tag gift cards. Be sure to keep disposable label away from the magnetic strip so as to not interfere with activation of the card.

Tagging Greeting Cards

Tagging Greeting Cards

Disposable paper labels are also good for greeting cards. Remember not to put an 8.2 MHz disposable label over or behind a shiny metal surface, or it will not ring your towers. It is always a good idea to have some extra white envelopes as you know some of your envelopes will get mixed up or disappear.

New and Different Deactivation Pads Now Available

I know your deactivation pad for disposable labels will last a very long time, but if you need additional ones we do have a couple new models. Our older style were refurbished Checkpoint. Our newer ones can be dropped down inside the counter flush mounted. Both have a light on the top surface to indicate the pad is turned on and working.

1: The basic style, which you need to get very close to the pad to deactivate labels, or it can also be used to verify if there is a hard tag still on a garment. The deactivation pads will not deactivate a reusable hard plastic tag. Private Label $150 new with 1 year warranty

Basic Deactivation Pad

2: The super style, which deactivates about a foot up off of the pad, so all you have to do is to put the items across the airspace above the pad.  This style is particularly helpful if you have boxed items that are tagged inside the box (ie shoes).  The super style is also able to be used to verify if hard tags are present on items.  It will not deactivate the reusable hard plastic tags. Private Label $299 new with 1 year warranty

It's Spring Cleaning Time!

March 2016

Yes it is hard to believe that Spring is here already.  This reminds me of home when Mom used to drag out all the cleaning supplies and announce “spring cleaning” time had arrived.  This was the one time a year that the house had no dust bunnies left from Easter and you could eat off the floor!

Now is the time to consider spring cleaning your security system.  See article below on how to do this so your electronics last longer.  Also if your system is 5 years old or older consider upgrading as we have new equipment with much better detection and special features that were not available back then. Remember your computer from 5 years ago.  You would have a hard time working with a 5 year old computer in today’s fast paced world.  The same is with a 5 year old system, especially if you purchased it used.

I am back home again in Indiana.  If you need to reach me for tech help use my direct office line 812-877-9442 or my cell 812-201-5900.  I look forward to assisting you with your security needs.

Cleaning your system takes just 10 minutes or so.

Clean EAS Security Towers

Unplug your system first.  Open the side covers at the bottom and with a small 2 inch paint brush that has not been used, brush the electronics up and down gently then side to side.  This will knock all the loose dust bunnies from Easter out.  Use a damp cloth to wipe down the base of the tower (not the electronics), then put the side covers back on and plug in the tower.  Spring cleaning in 10 minutes!  This will help to keep your electronics from overheating due to the dust accumulation.

New Technology Available NOW

The Euro Diamond I Series Tower 8.2

The Euro Diamond I Series Tower 8.2

A very elegant private label brand that is made of clear plexi and stainless steel. The clear tower lights up red and rings an alarm when a tag is detected. The Euro Diamond I detects both right and left of tower with good accuracy. This is a nice solution for upscale retailers. The stand alone baseplate can be provided for a “no holes in floor” installation. Checkpoint tags are compatible and the warranty is 2 years parts with 5 years tech support by phone.

The Ebony II Series Towers 8.2
The Ebony II Series Towers 8.2

These incredible towers will detect both hard tags and paper labels between the towers at a distance of 3 ft, 4ft 5ft + apart. Testing now being done at 6ft for double doors. Locked side covers are much easier to service than unscrewing a side panel and lights on the tower box let you know if you have power to the towers without taking off the side covers. These towers are typically wired with a power supply on each tower eliminating the wires that would run across your entrance. Each tower can be put on a single baseplate so that the distance between towers can easily be changed. These towers are compatible with with checkpoint tags. Two year parts warranty and 5 year tech support by phone included.

The Ebony I Series Tower 8.2

The Ebony I Series Tower 8.2

Detects tags both to the right and to the left of the tower. Two can be used to secure a double doorway. Multiples can be used for wide mall entrances. Also compatible with Checkpoint frequency tags with a warranty of 2 years for parts and 5 years for tech support.

Tower Troubles Resolved

Tower too Close to Door

Tower too Close to Door

With spring cleaning, sometimes an employee will move your tower to mop the floor and forget to move it back. Towers generally need to be 18 to 24 inches into the store away from the metal doorway.

Mannequins too CloseMannequins too Close

Mannequins usually have a heavy metal rod and base that can cause false alarms with the systems. Keep them 3 ft or more away from the tower. Also a customer can hang a handbag that is tagged on your mannequin driving you nuts till you figure it out. Also employees can change up the display and the mannequin can be dressed with a tagged item causing false alarms as well.

Not a Dedicated LineNot a Dedicated Line

The towers will always do better on a dedicated electrical line (all the way back to the breaker), because anything plugged into the same circuit with them can affect your towers. If your towers are not on a dedicated line you may notice things like, when you vacuum the towers false alarm, or certain times of the day they false alarm due to some other equipment being used. The way to offset this if you can not run a dedicated line is to use a Power-var line filter. We have them in stock.

Tagging Challenges Summarized

Summer Shoes Kids flip flop shoes

Tagging Flip Flops & Kids Shoes

The problem with shoes and flip flops is that they get miss-mated (either on purpose or by mistake).  To keep this from happening you will want to tether the right and left shoe/sandal/flip-flop together using a security tag and a lanyard. Now they will ring if stolen and no one will try to miss-match them.

Protecting Swimwear

Tagging Swimwear & Fancy Dresses

Tags with lanyards are good for things you do not want to put a pin into.  You can, however, attach a tag with a pin to fine garments.  Use a non grooved pin and always insert the pin first then place the tag over the pin and squeeze.  This way you will not snag the fabric.  The threads in the fabric may separate a bit to accommodate the pin thus looking like a hole, but a diagonal tug of the fabric after tag is removed will re-align the threads so the garment is unaffected.

Best Ways to Store Your Labels

Labels when not being used should be wrapped in aluminum foil to keep them fresh and to keep them from deactivating.  Note that your deactivation pad can deactivate labels up to 12 inches above and below the pad.  Never set rolls of labels on your deactivation pad as it can deactivate the whole roll.  Never put a roll of labels on the shelf right below the deactivation pad as it can deactivate right through the shelf.

Ways to tell if you have a bad label on your roll.

Red Dot on EAS Paper LabelBlack Lines on Blank LabelsMissing Labels are acceptable

Red Dot Marks The Spot

Some of our label manufacturers mark their bad labels with a red dot on the bar-coded area.  Do not use these red dot marked labels as they are out of frequency and not counted in your order of 2000 labels.

Black Lines on Blank Labels

Many manufacturers mark their blank labels with a black line down the middle of the blank security labels to indicate they are out of frequency and should not be used.  You are guaranteed 2000 good labels so sometimes the label rolls look smaller depending upon how many bad labels are on the roll.

Missing Labels is OK too

Newer label machines will actually peel off the bad label so if you see missing labels that is ok too.
